REDUCTION OF LINES EDUCATION

Treatments for reduction of lines are commonly used in aesthetic medicine and may form part of a personalised treatment plan.

Lines may develop through repeated facial movement over time. Other factors such as skin quality, genetics, sun exposure, lifestyle and the natural ageing process may also contribute to their appearance.

Different types of lines may respond differently to treatment and not all concerns are managed in the same way.

Treatment recommendations are based on a clinical assessment and may vary depending on factors such as facial anatomy, muscle activity, medical history, previous treatments and individual treatment goals.

HOW DO TREATMENTS FOR REDUCTION OF LINES WORK?

Facial muscles contract whenever we make expressions such as smiling, frowning, squinting or raising our eyebrows.

Over time, repeated muscle movement may contribute to the development of expression lines within the skin.

Treatments for reduction of lines are designed to temporarily reduce the activity of selected facial muscles.

As muscle activity is reduced, existing lines may appear softer and the formation of deeper expression lines may be slowed.

Treatment outcomes vary between individuals and may be influenced by factors such as anatomy, muscle strength, treatment history and individual response.

WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?

Treatment outcomes develop gradually and should not be assessed immediately following treatment.

It is important to allow a full two weeks before assessing the outcome of treatment.

During this settling period, it is common for different areas to respond at different rates. One side may appear to respond more quickly than the other, or some areas may begin to change before others.

Some people may notice changes sooner, however the final treatment outcome is generally assessed at two weeks.

If you have concerns regarding your treatment outcome after the two-week period, please book a review appointment with your practitioner.

HOW LONG DO RESULTS LAST?

Treatment longevity varies between individuals.

Factors such as muscle strength, metabolism, treatment area, lifestyle factors, exercise levels and previous treatment history may influence how long treatment effects remain noticeable.

As muscle activity gradually returns, treatment effects will reduce over time.

Some people choose to maintain treatment at regular intervals as part of an ongoing treatment plan, while others may prefer less frequent treatment depending on their individual goals and preferences.

Consistent treatment planning may assist in maintaining treatment outcomes over time, however treatment recommendations and treatment intervals vary between individuals.

WHAT ARE STATIC AND DYNAMIC LINES?

Lines are often described as either dynamic lines or static lines.

Dynamic lines are visible during facial movement, such as smiling, frowning or raising the eyebrows. These lines may not be visible when the face is at rest.

Static lines are visible even when the face is relaxed and no facial movement is occurring.

Over time, repeated facial movement, skin changes, sun exposure, genetics and lifestyle factors may contribute to the development of static lines.

The type and severity of lines present may influence treatment recommendations and expected outcomes.
